Michael Medved's Excellent Article on the Immigration Debate

A must read today is Michael Medved's thoughts on the illegal immigration issue. Despite the propaganda campaign that is being waged by certain folks, most Americans are not all fit to be tied over folks that might be citizens in 12 to 15 years. His piece references some great polls and also brings some much needed sanity to the debate in the internet. I strongly suggest if you are on a internet forum to post this article. Also email it to your friends. I am hoping that Medved talks about this piece on his radio show today.(He is live now) Also check out Called as Seen as he directs you to what another blogger on my blogroll is saying on this subject.

Following my own advice I have posted this article at this forum. Watch hopefully sane rational thought being developed there.

Good article. And how fascinating (in a carwreck kind of way) are the comments to the article (44 so far) from people who just don't want to hear it, people who categorize twelve million people as crooks (I wonder if the commenters think of speeders and jaywalkers as crooks), people who think Michael Medved is a fake conservative, people who think that America is being erased, people who think that Mexico is waging de facto war against the United States.

I have to wade through the same crap on Lucianne.com and RightNation.us. If these people are the "conservatives," then I guess I should stop calling myself a "conservative" because I sure don't think as they do.

But it's heartening to know that the bulk of people who DO still think of themselves as right-of-center apparently think more as Medved and I do, rather than as the "no-citizenship-EVER" people do. (Even though the "CITIZENSHIP = AMNESTY" commenters still seem to think they speak for the American people.)

Thanks, well I manage to hang in there tonight. One other sane poster came to the rescue and help me out. That was actually pretty tame. If I had posted not at around 7 or 8 the flamers would have been out in force.

What is happening in these forums is that they either run off anyon that disagress with them, Also many just stay away because it gets so nasty. Of course that is there objective.

Great article, I posted it on the couple of forms I visit. I remember I once tried to explain to an online friend, who was in the enforcement only camp. That no one I know, in the real world, thinks deporting or even trying to coerce 11 million people to leave was ever even in the cards. Most people I would speak with would just sort of give a blank look to such a proposal and dismiss it as foolish with no chance of ever happening. I live on Long Island you can't go to a 7/11 with out tripping over a half dozen of them.

I think this whole thing was pushed by a bunch of whack jobs who managed to dupe a fair number of decent folks. It is also I think a phenomenon of the new media. Much like the MSM acts as an echo chamber for liberals convincing them they're assumptions are held by most of the public. The internet served the same purpose for the self proclaimed Republican "base". I think in the end we will get a bill along the lines of what was outlined by the President. Republicans seem to becoming more rational on this issue.

That still leaves Tom Tom Tancredo and others of his ilk to be dealt with. IMHO these barely disguised bigots need to be run out of the Republican party and conservative movement, so that I can continue to identify my self as a conservative in good conscience. I have no intention of surrendering my title to the likes of them.

Thanks for all the good work you have been doing. When this first hit and I was banned from a conservative chat board for not marching in lock step, I thought I was the only one. You and Pink Flamingo and now others helped me see I was not the only conservative who felt this way.

Please keep up the good work.
